AFTER THE SHIFT.
AFTER THE SESSION.
AFTER THE CRISIS.

What about you?

What about you?

What about you?

You spend your days helping other people navigate life’s challenges.

The Aftercare Space is a place for mental health professionals to talk honestly about their own.

A space to talk freely about burnout, overwhelm, boundaries & the gap between knowing what good self-care is… and actually doing it.

A place to put things down, feel less alone and explore what sustainable helping actually looks like in real life.

No masking or performative wellness required.

You can know all the theory and still find self-care hard.

You can understand:
  • burnout
  • trauma
  • boundaries
  • attachment
  • nervous systems
  • emotional regulation
  • compassion fatigue
  • self-care
…and still find yourself:
  • overworking
  • emotionally exhausted
  • procrastinating
  • neglecting your own needs
  • cancelling plans
  • avoiding your notes
  • struggling to rest without guilt
  • reaching for coping mechanisms that aren’t serving you

That doesn’t make you a fraud.

It makes you human.

The challenges of being human don’t disappear when you become a mental health professional.

The challenges of being human don’t disappear when you become a mental health professional.

One of the strange things about mental health work is that we spend our lives supporting other people through difficult experiences that affect us too:

  • Relationships become complicated.
  • Children need us.
  • Parents get older.
  • Mental health wobbles.
  • People die.
  • Grief still hurts.
  • Boundaries get tested.
  • Old coping mechanisms resurface.
  • Unexpected curveballs appear out of nowhere.

The same human realities that affect everybody else continue to affect helping professionals too.

Yet many of us quietly carry an additional burden.

The feeling that we should somehow be better at this.

After all, we’re the ones who understand the theory. We’re the ones teaching boundaries. We’re the ones talking about self-care. We’re the ones encouraging other people to seek support.

Which can make it surprisingly difficult to admit when we’re struggling ourselves.

So why do so many of us struggle alone?

Many mental health professionals know exactly where they would encourage a client, colleague or friend to turn for support.

Yet when we’re struggling ourselves, reaching out isn’t always so straightforward.

Sometimes the barriers are practical.

Sometimes they’re professional.

Sometimes they’re deeply personal.

What if we stopped pretending?

Most helping professionals don’t need another explanation of why self-care matters. We’ve read the books, attended the training and completed the CPD.

The challenge isn’t usually knowing what helps. It’s finding ways to live that knowledge in the middle of real life.

The Aftercare Space isn’t about teaching mental health professionals what they already know. It’s about creating places where people can be honest about how their ability to care for themselves and cope with the demands of life naturally ebbs and flows.

Because life has seasons. And so do we.

Places to talk openly about what’s hard, ask for support without shame, learn from one another and discover the power of not carrying everything by yourself.

Places to explore what sustainable helping actually looks like in practice, not just in theory.

Because maybe the answer isn’t trying harder.

Maybe it’s stopping trying to do it all alone.

Who is this for?

The Aftercare Space is for people working in emotionally demanding helping roles, especially those already drawn to reflection, dialogue, relational work and psychological thinking.

This might include:

  • counsellors
  • psychotherapists
  • psychologists
  • mental health practitioners
  • ISVAs
  • IDVAs
  • recovery workers
  • support workers
  • peer support workers
  • advocates
  • wellbeing practitioners
  • coaches
  • group facilitators
  • charity workers in trauma, abuse, mental health or recovery services

It’s for people who spend a lot of time holding space for others, and who sometimes need somewhere they can stop holding it all alone.
